Definition of PT
art and science of physical or corrective rehab of any bodily or mental condition of any person by use of physical, chemical or other properties of heat, light, water, electricity...active, passive and resistive exercise and shall include PT evals, treatment planning, instruction and consultative services
Board composition
1 PT involved in PT education, 3 PT's with 5 years experience, 3 public members who aren't licentiates of the board or any other medical board (CA citizen, not school faculty)

A physical therapist shall document and sign in the patient record following
(1) Examination and re-examination
(2) Evaluation and reevaluation
(3) Diagnosis
(4) Prognosis and intervention
(5) Treatment plan and modification of the plan of care
(6) Each treatment provided by the physical therapist or a physical therapy aide
(7) Discharge Summary
With respect to any care provided to the patient, the patient record shall indicate
(1) The date and nature of the service provided
(2) The name and title of any individual who provided such service, including the individual's role in that service.
Each and every change of name and residence address must be submitted to the board within
30 days

Administrative citation fines shall not be
less than $100 and more than $2500
A citation may result in a higher administration fine if
-the violation is perpetrated against a disabled person or senior citizen
-it involves multiple violations of the Practice Act
-the violation presents an immediate threat to the health and safety of another person
With aggravating circumstances, an administrative fine may
increase to $5,000
The cited person may request a conference to clarify the citation
within ten days
Continuing competency regulation may be fulfilled by

The board can suspend license for 12 months for
-Wrongful ads, fraudulent license, impersonating a PT
-Gross negligence, verbal/sexual harassment/abuse
-Habitual intemperance (alcholism)/drug addiction
-Not following infection control guidelines
-Commission of a crime substantially related to the qualifications, functions or duties of a PT/PTA
Supervision of PTA by PT
-PT will evaluate, establish treatment plan/goals and re-eval
-Communicate POC verbally/in writing before treatment
-Supervising PT available in person/on phone at all times
-PT will periodically provide observation of pt care
-within 7 days the supervising PT shall cosign and date all documentation by the PTA or conduct a weekly case conference
Training and experience considered equivalent to that obtained in an approved physical therapist assistant school shall be acquired in one of the following ways:
-Military training in hospital and PTA course including min 550 hours of technical coursework, 350 hours supervised clinical experience, 15 semester units general ed
-Combo of training (30 semester units of instruction and 18 mos PT work) and 36 mos of full-time work experience in physical therapy in acute care
-60 months of full-time PT experience, 30 months experience in acute care
Supervision of PT aide practice
-PT cosigns for patient related tasks
-PT in same facility, providing continuous and immediate supervision
-cannot soley treat patient
-PT must provide direct service to the patient at some point during the treatment day
Supervision of practice by PTLA
-Same day cosign with direct and immediate supervision
-Supervising PT documents receipt of PTLA letter and records expiration date
-provide documentation of issued license at the conclusion of the PTA license applicant status
Practice by PTLA
-following receipt of a letter of authorization to test may perform as a license applicant under the direct and immediate supervision of a licensed PT for 90 days pending the results of the first licensing examination administered.
-shall document each treatment in the patient record, along with his or her signature
The use of roentgen rays/radioactive materials or electricity for surgical purposes
