Task 1 (Total 700 words) each short answer question requires a response in a few sentences
(paragraph) for the questions awarded 6 marks and two –three paragraphs for questions
awarded up to 8-10marks.
1. Identify and explain the three different types of Projects and provide examples.
(8 marks)
- Change driven, the company have desired to change the operations to coordinate with
the right environment (Pinto, 2012). For example, James and Richard and Duncan
(1995) emphasised that when the market demand is greater than supply, the company
must upgrade the equipment for producing more products to conform to the appropriate
of the market environment.
- Market-driven, it must have a new product that is producing to response what the market
needs (Pinto, 2012). For instance, McDonald's in India currently does not sell beef and
pork. Moreover, McDonald's has separated the kitchens for cooking of vegetarian and
non-vegetarian. As you can see Misra (2010) mentioned that Hinduism does not eat
beef, Muslims do not eat pork but can eat chicken and vegetarian food. Therefore,
McDonald's launched a special taste burger such as the chicken version of Maharaja
Mac and McAloo Tikki in India.
- Crisis-Driven, Pinto (2012) mentioned that the response of crisis-driven will be an
urgent situation like pharmaceutical companies producing of vaccines. For example,
after the explosion of Samsung's S7 Note, the company desired to maintain the brand
image. Hence, Samsung quickly took action to make a large-scale recall of the
problematic S7 Notes. Furthermore, they decided to let customers change their phones,
give confidence to the customers and the public that they can use Samsung's S7 Note
safely (Samsung, 2016).

2. Through an example briefly explain the meaning of a Work Breakdown Structure
(WBS). Why is it important to have such a structure. (6 marks)
For example, a birthday party has a lot of things to do so they must plan and list the
thing is necessary. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) described that what the direction is, let
us evaluate how it is done, let them ensure what is done in each process and how much the
process is not done. Follow the plan they will do the birthday party that is more efficient. The
following figure demonstrates the example of WBS.
Figure 1. WBS of birthday party
The reason why structure is important because it gives the project plan clearly. It has
described the scope of the project, determine the work content and work order. Also estimates
time, cost and resource requirements for individual units to improve time, cost and resource
estimation accuracy (Larson and Gray, 2018).
