Healthcare is changing and evolving every day with new and innovative technologies. The master prepared nurse practicing in the 21st century should employ all nine essentials in order to be effective and meet the challenges of providing high quality care in any setting or in any role.
Due to the constant changes and improvements of technology in healthcare, master prepared nurses should be equipped with the knowledge to adapt and function proficiently in promoting a focus on illness prevention, chronic disease management, cost-effective approaches to high acuity, and coordinating care for the long term. (AACN, 2011, p.5). Understanding the diversity of cultures allows the master prepared nurse to facilitate and deliver advance nursing care to all patients in clinical and community based settings in order to promote improvement in various health outcomes. The 21st century’s prepared master practicing nurse should possess a vast knowledge base about assessments, medications, and the physiological processes associated with vary diseases and injuries.
To be an effective leader the master prepared nurse must be able to communicate articulately with other health care providers in order to pursue continued comprehensive care for patients in multiple settings. Being, analytic, is very important also. It allows for the development of policy and procedures to improve outcomes, and for the development of best practices.
Collaborating with other health professionals is essential for achieving clinical prevention and health promotion. By integrating the team and advocating ethical conduct and accountability ensures that care is continuous, consistent and reliable.
All nine essentials are an intricate part of the 21st century master prepared nurse practice. Because the overall goal of the master prepared nurse is to act as an innovator and a role model for others while doing an effective job for the healthcare community. The master prepared nurse can use these essentials to create new leadership roles, manage change in multiple settings, and provide continuous, cost-effective, high quality and safe patient care.
