• In what ways are you and your peers using these standards in your areas of nursing practice?
• Discuss one nursing action you might incorporate to improve cultural competence in your organization.
Answer
Hello Professor and Class,
In my current facility quality of care for patients is one of the guiding principles which overlaps with the CLAS. One way we do this is by having language and other forms of interpretation services available at all times for patients at no cost to them. We also have the ability to print discharges in all languages and we have handouts available in most common languages for patient education. Being an ER we receive patients of any and all nationalities and do are best to provide them with the best care possible.
An action that could be incorporated into my ER to improve cultural competence would be ongoing education into different cultures, religions, and customs to aid in our ability to understand and communicate effectively with those we encounter. By introducing these things to people you help decrease the instances of misunderstandings and the difficulties that may occur.
Tiff,
