TITLE: THE FIRST VOYAGE AROUND THE WORLD
Content (What is the main idea?)
The First Voyage Around the World by
Antonio Pigaferta became the basis as the
primary source for the voyage or history of
Magellan and other subsequent events. In the
account of the first voyage, he, Antonio Pigafetta,
tells the story of how Ferdinand Magellan
traveled around the world. As they were sailing,
they reached and landed on an island in the
Visayas that they called Ladrons of Island and is
presently known as the Marianas Island.
Eventually, Magellan decided to land in an
inhabited area for greater security where they
could rest. On March 31, ordered a chaplain to
preside a mass bu the shore and was considered
as the first mass held in the Philippines. On April
7, the King of Cebu was baptized as Christian.
People wished to become Christians through
their free will. On April 26, the principal of the
island of Mactan went to Magellan to ask for a
boat full of men to fight against the chief named
Lapu-Lapu. Magellan died in a battle due to he
was pierced by a poisoned arrow. This was
Antonio Pigafetta’s First Voyage Around the World
of Ferdinand Magellan's main idea. This
document narrates the events that happened in
the first voyage around the world live with the
Spanish captain-general named Ferdinand
Magellan. Also, this document is according to the
point of view of Antonio Pigafetta who was the
first chronicler who accompanied Ferdinand
Citation (Who created it? Where is it created?)
Antonio Piggafetta was a Venetian scholar
and explorer who joined the expedition led by
Ferdinand Magellan. The expedition was
composed of a fleet of five ships and around 250
men, it started in 1519 and ended in Spain in
1522. Pigafetta was one of the 18 men who made
the complete trip under the command of Juan
Sebastian Elcano. The First Voyage Around the
World was written onboard one of the 5 ships
that was first to circumnavigate the world during
the expedition. Pigafetta accompanied Magellan
by keeping a detailed journal in which he
collected detailed descriptions of the journey.
Extensive data about geography, climate, flora,
fauna, and native inhabitants of the places was
written about the places that the expedition
visited. The original version of Pigafetta's journal
was lost. However, an account of the voyage
written by Pigafetta between 1522 and 1525,
survives in four manuscript versions: one in
Italian and three in French. Pigafetta’s work is
important not only as a source of information
about the voyage itself but also include [Show Less]
