Explain the relationships between hardware and network addresses including
their use with regards to networking devices and components (P5).
Data
... [Show More] packets when are being sent they have on them two addresses, basically are
the logical (IP) and physical (MAC). Considering that we should know all the media
devices have their own NIC (network interface card).
As IP addresses the MAC addresses are unique any device on the network cannot
have the same address, the MAC address is unique built by the factorie which
comes from. Every MAC is made up of 48 bits of data, in overall written as 12
hexadecimal characters. However IP address may change.
IPv4 has 32-bit addresses, IPv4 reserves special address blocks for private
networks, it depends about the type of ip we are using (class A, class b, class C,
class D, class E ). There are some addresses which are reserved for special use
such as:
- 10.0.0.0/8 private network
- 127.0.0.0/8 host- is hundred percent used for loopback address to the local
host
- 169.254.0.0/16 for subnetting
- 192.168.99.0/24 Internet or public IP
IP’s usually in LAN’s (local area networks) are set up by the router automatically but
in private networks they are set up by the own network admin which created the
network.
In the other hand we have IPv6 which has been created recently as IPv4 are
running out, ipv6 are represented in hexadecimal in eight groups and separated by
colors. For example 2001:0db8:0000:0042:0000:8a2e:0370:7334, there are some
system which have started to work this type of address such as: windows 10.
MAC address is a unique identifier for a NIC, this type of address comes by default
from factory and is not easy to change it, but is not impossible there are some
software that can help you to do it. A MAC address may include the manufacturer's
name, the date when is was created.
But all this about MAC addresses and IP’s just happen in devices which are
connected to the network either in intranet or internet, does not matter the type of
device it could be a fridge which could be connected to the network, the rest of
conventional hardware don’t need that type of stuff.
