Paper—The Legislative Process and Healthcare Lobbying
Your paper should have a minimum of 600 words (excluding the title and reference pages),
double spaced, and use APA 6th edition formatting and citations/references. All paragraphs
should be at least 5-6 well-developed sentences and indented. No extra spaces before and
after paragraphs. Quoted material is discouraged. One quote per page is acceptable and
points will be subtracted if more quoted material is found. In order to cite material, read the
material, analyze it and write in your own words and voice then cite your source. This
paper is your work and not a string of quotes without your thoughts and ideas being heard.
Your paper should be set up as described below and the resources in the APA manual.
Rubric will provide number of points for each area.
Title page
Set up a header: On the left hand margin set-up a running header and it looks like this on
the first page. Running head: LEGISLATIVE PROCESS (This is a short title less than 50
characters). Page number is flush right starting with a 1 on the right side. On pages 2
through the end: just the CAPPED TITLE only without the words running head. In word, go
to document elements, then header option. This will set up the headings and page numbers
for each page.
Centered on the page is the title, your name, and the name of the university. No abstract is
needed.
Second page of paper: Title of paper gets centered on the top of this page
Start with an introduction paragraph that should be a general introduction to the topic and
then end with purpose statement. A purpose statement is as follows: The purpose of this
paper is to discuss (then list some of the key elements of the rubric). This paragraph should
be 5-6 well-developed sentences. Introduction paragraph is worth 5 points
Then use headings – You will find this a better way to keep your organized and to assure
you have all the topics of the rubric
Part 1 (BOLDED and CENTERED) – This is a level one heading
Legislative Process (Bolded and on left margin). This is a level two heading

Reference/Citation requirement: Assignment should include a minimum of 4
professional references. Two (2) references from required course materials (Burkhardt &
Nathaniel textbook) and two (2) peer-reviewed references. Peer-reviewed references include
references from professional data bases such as PubMed or CINHAL applicable to
population and practice area, along with evidence based clinical practice guidelines.
Examples of unacceptable references are Wikipedia, UpToDate, Epocrates, Medscape,
WebMD, hospital organizations, insurance recommendations, & secondary clinical
databases. All references must be no older than five years
