The lesson will apply the ELP standard 9-12.10 “An English language learner can make
accurate use of standard English to communicate in grade-appropriate speech and writing.”
The standard is crucial for students’ ability to speak in complete sentences when agreeing
or disagreeing to opinions or advice.
The lesson will also use the ELP standard 9-12.9 “An English language learner can create
clear and coherent grade-appropriate speech and text.” It will help students to provide
written opinions on themes or texts, agreeing or disagreeing with a certain point of view with
particular reasons.
GOALS/OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
Use “I agree” and “I disagree” appropriately in different sentences.
Align the application of agreeing and disagreeing sentences alongside the provision
of advice and expression of opinions.
Use should to express opinions and provide advice to other people about a certain
idea.
Learn how to practice interactions using expressions for agreeing and disagreeing.
Orally and verbally agree or disagree with a given opinion or advice.
Agree or disagree respectfully with other people properly without hurting their
feeling.
Academic Language Demands and Vocabulary
The terms I agree and I disagree should be integrated with the comparative adjectives to
show how a person agrees or agrees with an opinion or an advice.
The lesson teaches crucial expressions for students who need English in structuring their
arguments with linking phrases and words as well as responding to opinions and advice
through various techniques for disagreeing and agreeing.
The vocabulary to be used includes:
Interesting, good, cool, attractive, modern, tall, safe, busy, friendly, exciting, expensive,
talkative, happy, healthy.

In the lesson immediately preceding this lesson, the students should have learned the use

They should also have learned how to use shouldn’t in the previous lesson.
