Sepsis VAS
Visual Analog Scale
VAS Objective
Improve physician decision making when it comes to antibiotic administration. (administration of
... [Show More] antibiotics more likely when pts have a high pre-test probability)
Improve accuracy of sepsis diagnosis.
VAS Background
Sepsis is the leading cause of death in ICUs. Early interventions (antibiotics, minimization of hypotension) may decrease sepsis mortality.
Interventions are most helpful with timely identification of infection.
Gestalt: pre-test probability of infection.
VAS Inclusion
Medical STAB cases
VAS exclusion
Minors
Trauma team activation
Cardiac arrest (active MI)
Stroke team activation
Active laboring mothers
Pt initially assessed elsewhere
VAS Data Collection
-Within first 15 min of pt arrival to STAB, approach pit boss to fill out initial assessment survey (AFTER EMS handoff and plan established)
-Set a timer for 60 minutes from when the pt arrived to STAB
-Continue to collect data and time stamps for the various interventions
-When 60 min timer goes off, approach pit boss to complete 60 min survey
-At end of encounter, once pts plan has been addressed, approach pit boss for end of encounter assessment
RAAPID- Special Care Quality Improvement
Real Time Assessment of Agitated Patients undergoing Interventional De-escalation
RAAPID Objectives
Assess if our methods of de-escalation are useful and helpful to the patients. Mainly assessing the use of restraints, sedative medication. and other methods.
RAAPID Inclusion
Pt is brought to special care and has an AMSS of +1 or greater at any point while in special care
RAAPID Exclusion
Minors
Pt does not have an AMSS of +1 or greater at any time while in special care
RAAPID Data Collection
-Fill out a RAAPID SCREENING form for each pt brought into special care
-If pt has an AMSS of +1 or greater, start a DCF and fill in data until pt has left special care.
-Once pt leaves specials, input screening data into REDCap
-paper clip the DCF to the screening sheet and place them in the completed research bin. [Show Less]
