There are four different types of attachment styles which can either negatively or positively affect a person and the relationship they may build in their lifetime.
Depending on the type of attachment style an individual has, they will find it easy to build a relationship with another individual, or they will find it harder. The persons attachment style will also describe whether the individual likes to build very close relationships or if they like to stay distant from the other individual. The purpose of this paper is to provide information about the different types of attachment styles and how they can impact an individual’s childhood years which eventually will influence their adulthood. Benchmark- Personality Research Paper Attachment styles are the types of attachment an individual form while in their childhood stage. Not only does this just impact the person when they are a child but when they become an adult too. Attachment relationships are made when finding out what need needs to be met when forming an attachment with another individual who is supportive and protective (Burger, 2019). A person who grew up without a supportive and protective parent figure might have an attachment style that does not allow them to open up as easy as other people. There are four types of attachment styles, and they impact children and adults in different ways. These attachment styles include secure attachment, avoidant attachment, anxious attachment, and disorganized/ fearful attachment. Individuals with different attachment styles are going to differ significantly. For example, how comfortable they feel building a close relationship with someone; how they deal with emotional intimacy and communicating their emotions; their ability to listening to their significant others needs and emotions; how they respond during disagreements; and their expectations of their relationship (Levy, 2017). This paper is going to discuss the different types of attachment styles, their effect on intimate relationships, and how an individual’s attachment style can be influenced by their guardians parenting skills. Types of Attachment Styles Attachment styles are formed in the early childhood years and continue to impact a person’s life as they grow older. Understanding a person’s style of attachment can help an individual point out what their strengths, weaknesses, wants, and needs might be in their daily life and even the relationships they form with other people.
