K1 Describe the information sources used for the documentation and
specifications that they use in their work
... [Show More] activities
Sources of information and documentation that people use for their work activities most of
the time can be found in standard work documentation or will be stored within a maintenance
crib and can usually be found by asking the team lead/leader where it is. Some other
information that may also be needed, such as exploded diagrams for parts, can typically be
found on the internet by searching the part number into google.
K2 Explain how the required documentation is obtained, and how to check that
it is current and valid
Documentation is usually obtained by asking a team lead/leader for the information or by
searching for it online. Documentation usually comes with an issue and re-evaluate date on
the drawing. If the time it is being used is between these dates then it is valid. If
documentation doesn’t have the date on it but has an originators name on it, it is best to
contact them to ask if it is valid. If documentation has either it is best to assume it is not valid
and be advised by a team lead / leader as to what course of action to take.
K3 Explain the importance of applying the appropriate occupational behaviours
in the workplace and the implications for both the apprentice and the
business if these are not adhered to
It is important to apply the appropriate behaviours in the workplace for a variety of reasons.
These include; to adhere to all health and safety legislations and to protect yourself and
colleagues from injuries. Incorrect behaviours, as outlined, could result in accidents which
could lead to dismissal from you company, also incorrect behaviours, if made public, could
bring the company into disrepute which can affect effect the company’s business severely.
K4 Describe how to use other sources of information to support the activity
(such as manuals, tables, charts, planning and quality documentation,
national and international standards)
Manuals can be used to support work activities as they can provide a good source of
relevant information for specific equipment that is being used. The information that is
relevant to the specific application can usually be found in the manual by looking at the
contents page and finding which pages are relevant. Tables and charts can be used to
support work activities as a way of proving that an implemented change has worked or by
identifying where problems lie on a production line. They can be used by looking at what is
expected and comparing that to a results chart/table. Planning and quality documentation
can be used to support work activities as the planning documentation allows you to know
what work has been planned and the quality documentation dictates to you to what quality
the work needs to be completed. National and international standards can be used in
conjunction with quality documentation by providing a reference point to the standards of
quality that work needs to be completed to. [Show Less]
