For malformations to occur related to environmental teratogens and so that includes things such as over the counter medications prescription medications it could be alcohol tobacco products and so this is one reason why the preconception. Is so important because a lot of times moms are not even aware that they are pregnant and they may have alcohol they may engage in smoking cigarettes perhaps marijuana perhaps they might even be taken a prescription medication to manage their hypertension that isn't compatible with the fetus and can cause some malformation also a very important period to make sure that our reproductive moms are as healthy as possible in case they become pregnant to have the best outcomes for the fetus and then the fetal. Is week eight through 40
some of the structures that we want to cover first let's discuss the amniotic fluid some of the functions of the amniotic fluid in pregnancy include that it acts as an excretion and collection system or the fetus and so the urine that the fetus actually produces becomes a part of that amniotic fluid it maintains fluid and electrolyte balance it helps to control the body temperature it allows for freedom of movement in addition is providing cushion to the fetus from trauma and then it acts as a barrier in the prevention of infection and so with that feed is in the amniotic SAC as long as the amniotic SAC has not ruptured then it acts as a barrier for the prevention of infection [Show Less]
