Hello Marshet,
Your presentation was very interesting and informative. Chlamydia is the most frequently
... [Show More] reported bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the United States. In 2017,
1.7 million cases of chlamydia were reported to CDC, but it is estimated that 2.86 million infections occur annually (CDC, 2015). A large number of cases are not reported because most people are asymptomatic. Chlamydia is most common among young people, with two-thirds of new chlamydia infections occurring among youth aged 15-24 years. It is estimated that 1 in 20 sexually active young women aged 14-24 years has chlamydia (CDC, 2015). An alternative regimen is Erythromycin base 500 mg or Erythromycin ethyl succinate 800 mg orally four times a day for 7 days. When diagnosed and treated for chlamydia, the patient should be educated and prompted to tell all recent anal, vaginal, or oral sex partners, so they can see a health care provider and be treated as well. This reduces the risk that the sex partners will develop serious complications from chlamydia, and will also reduce the person’s risk of becoming re- infected (Rowley et al., 2019). Erythromycin is a generic prescription medicine used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It is available in generic and brand versions. The lowest GoodRx price for the most common version of erythromycin is around
$10.00, 57% off the average retail price of $23.71. Publix’s price is $13.02, CVS’s price is $15.80, Walmart’s price is $13.18, and Kroger’s price is $12.13 with the GoodRx coupon. I hope she follows the treatment plan and maintains medication compliance in order to protect herself and begin to feel better.

Hello Eden,
Thank you all for your insightful information about gonorrhea. Gonorrhea is a prevalent, but preventable STI that is commonly presented at clinics. The stigma associated with STI’s can cause patients not to seek treatment. Keeping an open mind, not passing judgement, and maintaining a professional and confidential relationship with patients is imperative when treating STI’s. The Family Nurse Practitioner should assess patient anxiety levels and their ability in coping with the diagnosis. The FNP should provide emotional support and education regarding safe sex practices and the use of condoms (Barous et al., 2018). An alternative treatment for gonorrhea is Gentamicin 240 mg IM as a single dose plus azithromycin 2 g orally as a single dose. Any infections that occur soon after treatment are most likely due to reinfection, not treatment failure (CDC, 2015). Most common side effects experienced from these medications are gastrointestinal intolerance (CDC, 2015). The lowest GoodRx price for the most common version of gentamicin is around $6.00, 76% off the average retail price of
$25.18. Publix’s price is $13.73, CVS’s price is $16.66, Walmart’s price is $10.99, and Kroger’s price is $9.63 with the GoodRx coupon. The lowest GoodRx price for the most common version of azithromycin is around $3.89, 87% off the average retail price of
$31.08. Publix’s price is $9.68, CVS’s price is $15.83, Walmart’s price is $12.82, and Kroger’s price is $10.30 with the GoodRx coupon. As future healthcare providers it is important to understand the psychological factors driving gonorrhea infection rates in addition to sign and symptoms, risk factors, and treatments. Follow up after the office visit to ensure patient compliance, and to ensure the patient understands the importance of the treatment therapy.

Hello Tracy,
Your presentation was very interesting and informative. Erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence, is a very common health problem. According to a recent study, it is estimated that half of all men experience erectile dysfunction at some point. At age 40, about 40 percent of men suffer from this condition, and it is more common at older ages. It can lead to low self-esteem, depression and guilt (Mobley et al., 2017). Today, this condition has become common to most men across the world thus making it difficult to satisfy their partners. There are many different treatment methods for erectile dysfunction. All are not guaranteed as erectile dysfunction is not the same in every male. There are herbal, natural and medical treatments for erectile dysfunction.
Knowing the cause and reason of erectile dysfunction is important to find a solution and treatment. All the four drugs described in your presentation are the most popular and affordable solution for most men. An alternative treatment for erectile dysfunction is Alprostadil (Caverject, Edex, MUSE) is medication that can be used to treat ED. It can be administered in two ways: as a penile suppository or as a self-injection at the base or side of the penis. This medicine helps to create and maintain an erection. The MUSE urethral application of Alprostadil is often given in doses of around 250 micrograms, adjusted according to the response of the individual patient. The maximum dose per day is 2, and the maximum dose per week is 7 (BODIE, J. (2021). The lowest GoodRx price for the most common version of Edex is around $186.22, 15% off the average retail price of $219.13.Although this medication is very expensive. Publix’s price is
$190.40, CVS’s price is $203.47, Walmart’s price is $201.61, and Kroger’s price is
$200.38 with the GoodRx coupon (GoodRx, 2020). Often men with erectile dysfunction are able to improve sexual function by making a few lifestyle changes like stop smoking, losing weight, avoid alcohol, and exercising regularly.
