A. Assess your ability to gather information on your client within the iHuman Virtual
Patient Encounter.
1. Use the iHuman score sheet to review your results for the focused health history
and focused physical exam. How did you perform?
I felt I did a decent job on the first assessment; however, the results did not show true to this. I
was able to efficiently assess my patient and come to a diagnosis that matched the final
diagnosis on the computer, but I did not require as many steps to get to that answer. The
patient presented in a certain manner. I did improve my score throughout the week, decreasing
the number of missed items. I began to understand the clinic setting better and what it takes to
complete a thorough assessment of a patient depending on the presenting factors. I would say
this activity really made the student use active listening skills and critical thinking skills to get
the correct diagnosis. I found this activity to be particularly challenging, it is vastly different
from assessing patients in real life. I have a lot left to learn when it comes to this virtual layout
and completing tasks correctly. The case study has certain guidelines for assessing the patient,
and it proves to be a challenging task when we work bedside and see assessments performed
completely differently.
2. What did you find easy or difficult about navigating through the focused health
history and focused physical exam sections of the case?
I found it easy to remember answers from the first scenario to take into the future attempts.
My score improved because I was able to remember steps that had been missed in previous
attempts. I found it frustrating to complete a task and have the computer tell me that I was
completing the task in the wrong manner. The patient’s answers were very straight forward,
and this allowed a clear diagnosis for the patient. This software was difficult for me to navigate
the first time, but it improved with each attempt. I was happy there were hints available for
students. It was easier to continue to interview the patient when you knew all the necessary
information had not been obtained. I found it difficult this week to have the mindset of a clinic
provider. I currently work in an emergency room, and we have to think quickly and respond
quickly to patient needs, I was confident in my diagnosis after a couple questions, and I
struggled to make it through a comprehensive exam and detailed patient history. I found this [Show Less]
