This week, we will discuss the research design and sample for your
... [Show More] nursing clinical issue. The research design flows from the research question and outlines the plan for the study that will answer the research question. The design identifies the major components of the study. It is important to remember that there is no one best design for a research study.
1. After you review the designs, describe which research design you would expect to find when searching for evidence relevant to your own research question from Week
2. Why? Explain your answer.
2. The most common sampling method is the convenience sample; therefore, many of the studies that you find for evidence use this sampling method. What are the implications for using a convenience sample on the way you interpret and use the findings?
Professor and class:
My PICOT question from week 2 is: In parents of children between 12 months and 6 years old (P), how does patient education regarding the importance of the MMR vaccination and the unlink relation with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (I) compared with no education regardless of the parental decision (acceptance/rejection) regarding vaccination (C) improve the MMR vaccination rates (O) in a period of 6 months (T). In order to be able to answer my question and design a teaching intervention, I need to research the reasons why the parents are refusing the vaccine. My first research article focuses on the parent’s perceptions of risk surrounding MMR vaccine. Parental decision-making in the uptake of the MMR vaccination is a systematic review of the qualitative literature, non-experimental design.
I decided to use this article because a systemic review of qualitative studies review summarized the results of different qualitative studies and is focused on MMR parent’s concerns. Systemic reviews of qualitative studies are level C the highest level for non- experimental studies (Peterson, M. H et. al, 2014, p.61), which means it can be a reliable source to answer my question. The benefits of this kind of studies are the recompilation of a wide range of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and the combination of different methods to obtain results. The article used studies with internet forum discussion, individual and group interviews as methods to collect the data.
Limitations of the article are that the studies reviewed were on a range from 2003 to 2012, what leads me to think how much these perceptions can have changed in 5 years.
