ANSWER
Hello Professor and Class!
After reading about Nightingale legacies, I now understand why several century, we still talk about her exemplary life as a nurse and her accomplishments. One of Nightingales legacy that I find new and interesting is the fact that, one of her policy is a precursor to Evidence Base Practice. According to the text, Nightingale was the first nurse to systematically collect data and then statistically analyze it in order to justify proposed policy and treatment protocol changes aimed at improving patient outcomes (Judd, 2013). This activity was seen as a precursor to EBP. I view her as a very smart and well educated woman. Honestly, I didn’t know she was very educated, but the more I read about her, the more I read her about her, the more I think she should incorporated somehow as a topic for discussion in the nursing program. After been an LPN for over so many years, it was only during my RN journey that I started hearing about EBP. Today’s nursing is moving more towards EBP. I actually did not know she studied nursing in school. At age 31, Nightingale studied nursing for three months at the Deaconess school in Kaiserwerth ( Kalisch, 2013). The more we educate ourselves as nurse, the more empowered we become to make great decisions. This go to show that if you work hard for what you believe in, it is without doubt that you will achieve your goal. I love her resilience.
