INTRODUCTION
The business world has transformed significantly overtime with many techniques and strategies
that worked a long time ago being questioned due to the existing business landscape. The
business has to grapple between a good mix of resources, capabilities so that it maintains
competitiveness. This assignment will discuss the greater detail of how a business can
transform resources into competitive advantage by using a case study of Takealot.com many
concepts and processes will be discussed.

a) Explain the relationship between resources, capabilities and core competencies
Resources
Resources are defined as any inputs that are required for the operational viability of a company
to perform its business activities, these include labour, raw materials, technologies. Resources
can be classified into two categories namely tangible and intangible resources. Tangible
resources are an organisation's physical resources, these have form and intangible resources
typically include the knowledge and know-how of managers and employees gained through
experience; the intellectual property of the organisation including patents, trademarks and
copyrights; software; human capital; brand names; and the reputation of the organisation. The
main five types of resources are financial capital resources, physical capital resources, human
capital resources, organisational capital resources and technological capital resources.
Capabilities
A company’s capabilities are the activities and functions it performs to utilise its resources in an
