Abscess - ANS-A local collection of pus anywhere in the body.
Agranulocytosis - ANS-A lack of granulocytes (white blood cells) produced by the bone
marrow.
Akathisia - ANS-An inability to stay still with constant movement (restlessness).
Akinesia - ANS-A lack of body movement.
Alogia - ANS-A lack of speech (also called aphasia).
Alopecia - ANS-Hair loss.
Amenorrhea - ANS-The absence or cessation of menstruation.
Amnesia, anterograde - ANS-A loss of memory related to events that occur after a
traumatic event.
Amnesia, retrograde - ANS-A loss of memory related to events occurring before a
traumatic event.
Anaphylaxis - ANS-A severe, life-threatening allergic reaction occurring within 30-60
minutes of an exposure. Symptoms can include hypotension, swelling of the mouth and
throat, difficulty breathing (bronchospasm, wheezing), hives, abdominal pain.
Angioedema - ANS-Subcutaneous or submucosal swelling, typically in the tissues of the
face, lips, mouth and throat. Can occur in isolation or as a component of anaphylaxis.
Anion - ANS-A negatively charged ion (e.g. chloride).
Anorexia - ANS-A significant loss of appetite or aversion to food.
Anorgasmia - ANS-An inability to achieve orgasm.
Anuria - ANS-No urine output.
Aortic Dissection - ANS-A tear in the wall of the aorta, which allows blood to flow
between the wall layers, separating (dissecting) them.
Aphasia - ANS-A lack of speech (also called alogia).
Apoptosis - ANS-Cell death.
Arrhythmia - ANS-An abnormal heart rhythm.
Arthralgia - ANS-Joint pain.
Arthritis - ANS-Joint inflammation.
Ascites - ANS-Fluid accumulation within the peritoneal space of the abdomen.
Asplenia - ANS-Decreased spleen function or the absence of a spleen.
Asthenia - ANS-Lack of energy and strength; weakness.
