Grammar- Past Simple vs Present Perfect tenses for Past Experiences.
Lesson Topic:
Life Experiences
Lesson Aims:
By the end of the lesson, all students will be better able to
understand and produce Past Simple tenses for past experiences.
Example sentence: I went to Mauritius two years ago.
As well as, Present Perfect tenses for past experiences. Example
sentence: They have been to Mauritius.
The students will also be better able to differentiate between the
two tenses, Past Simple vs Present Perfect for past experiences, by
means of meaning, form, and use.
Lesson Outcomes:
By the end of the lesson, all students will have written the past
simple tense and present perfect tense’s form, meaning, structure
and rules in their notebook. All students will have answered CCQs
based on the topic and tenses learnt. Students will have
completed a worksheet independently. Students will have
interacted in pairs and groups, as well as brainstorm and compete
in their teams based on the activities provided.

1. Time constraints: The students are only around for a certain
length of time until they need to return to their home
countries.
2. Language barriers/ Cultural understanding: The students
backgrounds and ways of thinking may differ, which may
result in unrelatedness.
3. Distinguishing between the two tenses: Students may not
fully comprehend the difference between Past simple vs
Present perfect.
1. Lesson must be captivating and memorable
for the students to meet the lesson aims,
range in activities is required.
2. The topic is based on Life Experiences, a generalized
approach will be adapted to the lesson so that
commonality is attained within the group.
Students are forced to engage in English because of the
various languages that may be present in the group.
3. The meaning, form and use for both tenses will be written
and explained clearly, timelines and CCQ’s will be used to
