... [Show More] Assignment 06 forms part of elective group 2, as explained in section 9.2 of Tutorial Letter HRM2605/101/3/2022. Even though there are two assessment opportunities in group 2, only one (1) assignment (the one for which you obtain the highest mark) will contribute towards your final mark for this module. You must therefore complete at least one assignment from elective group 2. You may complete both assignments in this group, but only one will contribute towards your final mark.
This assignment consists of 5 pages.
INSTRUCTIONS:
(1) All written assignments must be submitted online (via myUnisa) in PDF. You should type your answers (1½ spacing, Arial font size 11) and then convert your document to PDF. However, if this is not possible, you may write your answers down and scan them into a PDF file. Please ensure that your answers are legible.
(2) The cover page or first page of your document must contain information such as the module code, assignment number and your name and student number.
(3) This must be followed by your answers to the questions. For this module, there is no need to include a table of contents, introduction or conclusion. Simply answer the questions and include a reference list with the sources that you have consulted at the end of your assignment. Remember, Unisa has zero tolerance for plagiarism and/or any other forms of academic dishonesty. Students suspected of dishonest conduct will be subjected to disciplinary processes.

Question 1
Read the following scenario and then answer the questions below.
Cynthia, a senior pharmaceutical sales representative, was promoted to team leader because she had been working for the company for more than 10 years and was the most experienced employee in her team. However, after 5 years in this new position Cynthia’s performance has declined. She is constantly late for work, she is irritable and anxious most of the time and she cannot make important decisions or concentrate on her work. Unfortunately, her sales team is experiencing the negative impact of Cynthia’s declining performance as they were unable to achieve their sales target for the year. Cynthia’s line manager has tried to help her by offering opportunities for training and development and by giving her a few days off to rest, but nothing
seems to be helping her.
1.1 Identify [1 mark] and briefly discuss [1 mark] the criteria that were used to promote Cynthia to team leader. Substantiate your answer with an example from the scenario [1 mark]. (3)
1.2 Explain in detail what Cynthia’s line manager must do to determine why she is not performing at an acceptable standard [4 marks]. In your answer, also expand on the possible reason for or cause of Cynthia’s declining performance [1 mark]. (5)
1.3 Identify [1 mark] and briefly explain [1 mark] the health condition that Cynthia is experiencing. Substantiate your answer with an example from the scenario [1 mark]. (3)
1.4 Cynthia’s line manager tried to help her by offering opportunities for training and development. Would T&D address her declining performance? Give reasons for your answer. (4)

Kabelo is a training and development specialist at a large talent management consulting company in South Africa. He was approached by the CEO of a mining company in Limpopo to present a workshop to the line managers on the effects of HIV/Aids in the workplace. Assist Kabelo with this task by answering the following questions:
2.1 From the scenario it is evident that Kabelo must design a T&D programme. Identify [1 mark] and briefly discuss the T&D approach that Kabelo must follow. In your discussion, briefly explain the various phases of this approach [4 marks]. (5)
2.2 Outline at least five consequences of HIV/Aids in the workplace that Kabelo should include in his workshop. (5)

Aiden Fick, a 35-year-old pharmaceutical sales representative, was driving home from a business meeting one evening when a drunk truck driver ploughed into him. Aiden was badly injured but lucky to be alive. After more than a year of recovery and many surgeries, he is now confined to a wheelchair and has difficulty talking – his speech is barely audible. Because of the physical challenges he is facing daily, it is clear that he can no longer do his job. Management at the company he works for (Merck, Bayer and Roche) feel sorry for Aiden, but they need to appoint someone to take over his portfolio of clients and to attract new clients in a very competitive business environment. What must the management of Merck, Bayer and Roche do to ensure that the dismissal of Aiden Fick is substantively fair? (5)
