My name is Chris Hitchko and I’ve taught over 1,000-personal trainers. I have my B.S. In Kinesiology, C.S.C.S. I’m the owner of Show Up Fitness (gyms in Santa Monica, West Hollywood, San Diego and many more to come) and have been a trainer for over 15-years. We developed a two-month personal training internship and as Dr. Chad Waterbury said, SHOW UP FITNESS – WHERE GREAT TRAINERS ARE MADE! My goal is to change the fitness industry and make it respectable. The average personal trainer who gets hired at a corporate gym quits within the first 12-months. I want to change that. If you’re looking for practical aspects of personal training, read my book:
I highly discourage getting any further certifications e.g.: CES, PES, FNS, and/or WLS and NASM will try to dupe you into purchasing all their certs, but ask yourself this, “Will those acronyms make me a better trainer? Do your clients even know what those initials mean?” The answer is NO. You need to gain SUPERVISED experience by training and learning from the best. If you want to work with athletes at an elite level (college / professional sports), I’d suggest getting your C.S.C.S. (certified strength and conditioning specialist), but even this GOLD STANDARD doesn’t require any hands-on learning, our 2-month Strength & conditioning ONLINE program is better. If you want to continue your NUTRITION career, don’t get Precision Nutrition or NASM- FNC, go through our 2-month ONLINE internship taught by a Registered Dietitian where you will learn how to implement consultations & be able to ask questions to an actual professional. If you want to learn more about CORRECTIVE EXERCISE, take our 2-month ONLINE course that is taught by one of the top strength coaches in the world and specific to learning about anatomy with hundreds of corrective strategies for clients with injuries. Every course that we offer is
$100/ month, NASM’s certifications cost between $500-800. You will save money and learn MORE with our ONLINE INTERNSHIP. Contact Show Up Fitness once you pass to sit in on one of these classes for free.
The NASM CPT exam is proctored at a facility (see their website). You need to have your CPR/AED completed. The exam is 120 questions and you’ll be given 120-minutes (2-hours). The questions are all multiple choice.
According to NASM:

Domain 2: Assessment 18%
Domain 3: Program Design 21%

In this document, I’ll highlight random questions in the text that you’ll be tested on, such as page V (National Academy of Sports Medicine Code of Professional Conduct), Refer the client to the appropriate medical practitioner when, at a minimum, the certified member: Becomes aware of any change in the clients health status or medication.
Show Up Fitness is NOT affiliated with NASM. Take the NASM-CPT within 30-days and then focus on supervised experience.
