Identify one professional lens
The professional lens that I’m choosing to write about in my capstone is a “manager.” As
I previously stated, the
... [Show More] lens of a manager is directly relevant to my current job role, as well as
my goals to continue to develop as a people and operational manager in my healthcare
organization. As an operational and people leader, it is beneficial to encompass the various skills
that have been discussed throughout the various courses in my Healthcare Management
education. I plan to adapt to those skills by implementing them into my daily tasks.
A3. Perspective through the lens of a manager
Over the course of the last year, I’ve been working on an initiative to grow and develop a
program to support price transparency for medical services in which patients are scheduled for
within the healthcare organization where I work. As a manager supporting this initiative, I’ve
been able to complete and support tasks in Healthcare Management Strategy as well as
Technology Applications, as the initiative requires the full and direct support of both of those
applications.

Healthcare Management Capstone Task 1
Our team, the financial clearance estimate team, currently supports price transparency
with two different workflows. The first workflow that supports price transparency is based on
referrals. Patients or employees can call our financial clearance team and request an estimate
for scheduled and non-scheduled services that they are needing. This workflow is only
beneficial for patients and employees that are aware that we offer this service to our patients
and community members. The second workflow that supports price transparency involves my
financial clearance team working off a work queue in our EMR Electronic Medical Record system
to identify scheduled patients, and we have an outreach approach to support estimates for
those scheduled patient’s services.
A4ai. Discuss the operational environment
The operational environment for the financial clearance team includes Patient Financial
Advocates whom are responsible for a vast amount of information and workflows that they are
regularly required to stay apprised of for estimate creation, various technology tools they
Patient Financial Advocate must be educated to on how to navigate, revenue cycle staff to
ensure barriers or gaps aren’t occurring in our workflows and thus creating a decrease in our
estimate accuracy rates, build analysts through our third party vendor that owns and provides
the technology tool that is used to create estimates, as well as our CFO that has approved the
cost of the monthly use of the estimate tool-CarePricer. Lastly, I would say our patients are
stakeholders as well, as our main center of focus is their satisfaction, as well as a positive
patient experience from the beginning to the end of their entire stay, which includes their
clinical care and billing care.
