What are the 3 Driving Principles that focus on correct Human Movement? - (1) First move well, then move often
(2) Protect, Correct, and Develop
(3)
... [Show More] Create systems to protect our principles
What is the purpose behind Principle 1? - Became FMS slogan "Move well. Move often"
Note the period. First need to have Movement Literacy so you understand the stimuli and can react to them. THEN move often and respond to those stimuli and be adapted
What did the Kraus-Weber test tell us? - The test, in 1955, told us that Americans don't appear as fit as everyone else
What is the theory behind the results of the Kraus-Weber Test? - The SAID principle (Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands) was enacted right before the test in 1954. The SAID principle said "You will adapt if we impose demands" so people became in a big hurry to exercise but not all were movement literate yet
What will a movement screen tell you? - Will tell you if more testing is needed
What do we screen? - We screen the patterns that represent movement literacy. We then have created a movement-based learning platform of PATTERNS
What is movement screening? - A simple test that starts a journey and investigation into movement
What goes into the determination of the screens? - (1) The movements are intentionally simple
(2) Are using biomechanical principles to force the movement honesty
What are the Little Four "Fundamental Tests"? - (1) Leg Raise
(2) Reciprocal Arm Reach
(3) Push Up (or Plank) Pattern
(4) Crawl (Reciprocal Pattern in Quadriped)
What are the Big Three "Functional Tests"? - (1) Squatting (Symmetrical Stance)
(2) Lunging (Asymmetrical Stance)
(3) Stepping (Single Leg Stance)
What are the Little Four Tests biased toward? - Biased toward Mobility
--Want to identify mobility restrictions
--If they can't move through the range, they can't feel what to do next **
What two things do the Deep Squat do for us? - Incorporate fully coordinated extremity mobility
AND demonstrates core stability
DS-- How should foot position be established? - The inseam of the foot is aligned with the crease of the armpit
DS-- How do you set up hand position? - Place stick on head. Then position arms so that elbows create a 90 degree angle. Then elevate hands above head
DS -- How to score a 3? - --At lowest position, pt torso must be at least parallel with tibia
--Femur is just below parallel with the floor
--Knees should not track inside feet (Not buckle)
--Dowel remains aligned over their feet
DS -- How to score a 2? - Must be able to perform all four criteria necessary for score of 3. EXCEPT can have heels elevated
DS -- How to score a 1? - Cannot perform one or more of the four criteria even when heals are elevated
DS -- How to score a 0? - Pain is present anywhere in body during test
Why is a dowel used in the Hurdle Step (HS) screen? - There should be no movement above the waist. Should be able to accomplish this task w/ lower body mechanics only
HS -- How to setup? - --Hurdle line should be moved to a height that is equivalent to the tibial tuberosity (bony protuberance just below knee cap
--Feet as close together as possible, while feet touching the base of the hurdle
--Hand Position should make 90 degree angle with dowel resting on head, then dowel can be lowered to rest on back of neck
**Performed on each leg, and score is determined by the stepping leg
HS -- How to score a 3? - --Hips, knees, and ankles must all be aligned within sagital plane
--Minimal/no movement in lumbar spine
--Throughout movement, dowel should remain parallel with hurdle
HS -- How to score a 2? - Not able to comply to all 3 of the HS requirements
HS -- How to score a 1? - --Unable to complete the pattern
--If there is contact between stepping foot and any part of the hurdle
--Loss of balance is noted
