Educational Rationale
This scenario is developed as one out of 20 Simulation in Nursing Education Volume II
scenarios that address major learning objectives applicable to all types of undergraduate nursing
programs. The simulation scenarios are designed to encourage students to assess and manage
the patients by identifying key indicators to allow critical interventions to be performed. The
scenarios are designed to provide fidelity within the simulation, determine the appropriate level
of complexity, imbed cues and provide adequate debriefing opportunities using the Quality and
Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies. The scenarios are specifically developed for
use with the SimMan simulator and the SimMan Essential and SimMan 3G simulators utilizing
Instructor Mode, Classic View.
