How does Danglars feel about Dantes? How are his feelings revealed? - Danglars and
Dantes are two men who work on a cargo ship called Phareon. Danglars is the purser
and Dantes is the first mate. Unlike the rest of the crew, Danglars does not like Dantes.
He thinks he is young, inexperienced, and unintelligent. He is jealous of Dantes' position
and skills. His feelings are revealed through his hateful look at Dantes and his
conversation with Morrel, the ship owner.
What does Captain LeClere ask Dantes to do for him? - Captain LeClere asks Dantes to
stop at the Isle of Elba and deliver a package to Marshal Bertrand. The emperor,
Napoleon, is also on the island and wants to get back. There, he is given a letter that
needs to be taken to Paris. Morell is a bonapartist while Danglars is a royalist.
What good fortune befalls Dantes? - The luck that falls upon Dantes is that he is chosen
to replace LeClere and become the captain of the ship. Morell likes Dantes and trusts
him to be captain. All he has to do is ask his partner and if approved, he will become the
captain.
