The author states that “every manager is an HR manager due to the role of other managers. Their duties include interviewing and selecting the best talent; in a manner that is fair and legal. The managers give performance appraisals and recommend employees for areas of improvement such as training. My current employer is requiring all manufacturing staff to complete a 3 day training course to receive a soldering certificate. This is being organized and scheduled by my manager. Recently, I received a performance appraisal from my manager; it covered my goals and accomplishments for 2011. It covered my ability to complete tasks with little to no assistance. Thankfully, I received a favorable review.I agree with the author that every manager is an HR manager. My current manager seems to be concerned with morale; she discusses with me my future plans and where I like would to go in the organization after completing my degree. Education focuses not on current job requirements but on requirements or responsibilities for positions that an employee may hold in the future (Youssef, 2012). Managers have many of the same responsibilities as HR managers. A couple of years ago I had a problem with a coworker; my manager was able to get us together in a conference room to resolve the problem. The manager was able to handle the situation without involving HR. It is good to have HR managers there for the employee. HR managers are the employees’ representatives within organizations in more or less the same manner that attorneys represent citizens in the courthouse (Youssef, 2012). Our text describes the HR manager as an advocate for employees.
