Pre-Lab Questions
1. What is
... [Show More] the function of the endocrine system?
Function of the body manage by the endocrine system. Its made from glands and they produce hormone that balance the body. These hormone balance metabolism, sexual development and growth. This sys- tem has another function to balance ion levels like blood Ph, ca2+, Na+, K+, mange water balance and blood glucose.
2. Research two types of hormones and describe the mode of action for each.
ADH created in hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland and balance water in blood. ADH helps water reabsorption. ADH works when extra water used blood vessels are tighten and blood pressure higher. Oxytocin stimulates uterine contraction by stimulating smooth muscle to shrink in uterus. Also mix with milk comedown in nursing, smooth muscle like cells around milk dicts in mama- mary glands. Oxytocin also plays role in bonding and maternal nuturing.
3. Which gland is both endocrine and exocrine?
The pancreases is the gland is both endocrine and exocrine.
4. Which hormones control the fight or flight response? Adrenaline hormone controls the fight or flight response.
5. What is type 1 diabetes and what is the treatment for this disease?
IN type 1 diabetes our body doesn’t’t produce enough insulin from pancreases. As treatment insulin shots needs to given daily to better control blood sugar. Glucose monitoring needs more often and diet and exercise also plays important role to have control on blood sugar.
6. Describe how Ca2+ levels in the blood are regulated by hormones.
Ca2+ levels are regulated by parathyroid hormone that is produce by parathyroid gland. Low blood cal- cium levels make cause to release this hormone.it restore osteoclasts for calcium to go in blood.
7. How do the nervous and endocrine systems work together to maintain homeostasis of the body?
Both are control systems. Common connection between these two is hypothalamus. Hypothalamus con- trolled by homeostasis and has producing and inhibiting hormones.
