Transferring a client to stretcher: it is always important when positioning and transferring
patients to use proper body mechanics. Doing this reduced the risk of injury to both the nurse and
the patient. When transferring a patient from a bed to a stretcher you raise the bed to about an
inch higher than the stretcher and use a sliding board to help guide the patient over.
Caring for a client with seizures: a seizure is a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain.
During a seizure the nurse should stay with the patient and call for help. Transfer the client to the
floor or turn the patient to the side and maintain a patent airway. Administer medications if
needed, the nurse also wants to note the time and duration of the seizure.
Latex allergy: Allergies are a very serious thing and need to be assessed before caring for a
patient. The patient should be one of the first procedures of the day if they have latex allergy.
Latex free gloves should be used at all time, any equipment needs to be properly covered before
coming into contact with the patient.
Safe application of restraints: First of restraints should only be used as a last resort other
alternatives must have been tried before restraining a patient. Documentation through out this
process is very important. The nurse should not only keep the patient safe but herself as well.
