MARKETING PLAN PROJECT INSTRUCTION
For this Marketing Plan Project, you need to create a fictitious company with a product (or line of products, for example a video game system) or service that you want to analyze and promote. You can make up your product/service or use an existing one (preferably make up your own). If you use an existing one, you may want to add something that makes it unique. Just look around your house or office and you will find many of them. You can use websites such as amazon or ebay for ideas. Once you have a product in mind please notify me in a comment before you complete the project.
Please approach the project with a “real world – manager’s” mentality. How would you do it if you were faced with this task in the real world? How would you present it? What would you include? There are many examples that you can use as guidance on the Internet. There is no reason to ask how you should do the project.
There is not a right or wrong format to do the project. Please make sure that your project:
Contains a minimum of 2,500 words.
Is easy to read and understand: The use of graphics is highly recommended.
Is appealing to your audience. Make it interesting.
Follows a format. You can use APA (6th) edition or MLA. Choose one format and follow it. Please do not mix formats.
Cite all your sources
Make sure you touch on all the elements mentioned in the Marketing Plan Outline.
Analyze and summarize your work.
Your project should include but is not limited to the following outline:
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (should include Mission Statement)
Mission Statement
Company Overview (includes a brief summary of the company, as well as its goals and objectives)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
An executive summary is approximately one page long and briefly outlines the main points of the business plan. It is used as a stand-alone summary that can be presented to potential investors, partners, service providers and customers to give them an idea of what the company does, how it operates, its expectations and its needs. Its purpose is to entice the reader to ask to see the entire business plan.
Mission Statement:
The mission statement is a sentence or, at longest, a paragraph that concisely outlines the character of your company and its goals. Start by defining what your company does, who it serves, why it operates the way it does, how it competes in its industry and what goals it is expected to meet. Your mission statement is the only place in a business plan where superlatives such as best, most successful, largest and premier are acceptable. Your mission statement describes what you want your customers to see in your company. The mission statement explains what your business is all about.
Focus on a limited number of goals
Stress major policies and values
Define major competitive spheres
Take a long-term view
Short, memorable, and meaningful
The mission statement should inspire the employees to support the company goals, to tell the world why you’re in business, and to state your values. They often include ways in which the company is making the world a better place to live.
Generally speaking, the most effective mission statements are relatively short but they still pack a punch.
Company Information:
Include a short statement that covers when your business was formed, the names of the founders and their roles, your number of employees, and your business location(s).
Growth Highlights:
Include examples of company growth, such as financial or market highlights (for example, “XYZ Firm increased profit margins and market share year-over-year since its foundation). Graphs and charts can be helpful in this section.
Products / Services:
Briefly describe the products or services you provide.
Financial Information:
If you are seeking financing, include any information about your current bank and investors.
Summary of future plans:
Explain where you would like to take your business.
Examples of Mission Statements
Companies, organizations, schools and other groups, committees and individuals use a broad range of information, formats and styles in their mission statements to set forth their goals. Mission statements can also tell the types of services, products and help which can be expected from the group.
Formulating a Mission Statement
Mission statements can be quite lengthy, or they can be a simple sentence or two.
Your project should include but is not limited to the following outline:
