CEAP Reflection
Today’s students are under stresses that most outside parties do not see. The student deals with more high stress situations that are compounded by the craving for success. Though schools realize this, many institutions do not take the steps to help curve their students stress. If we look at some of the more liberal colleges, we see that they utilize sleep rooms on campus, or campus activities designed to take away some of the rigors of school. Chamberlain College of Nursing utilizes an assessment known as the Chamberlain Early Assessment Program (CEAP), this is a test that is taken by the student early in their academic career. This test shows an overview of how the student is gauged for academic success based on their index. Their index consists of six categories, that include resilience index, commitment index, motivation for learning index, learning strategies index, academic skills index, and lastly the balance index.
Strengths and Weaknesses
In this assessment the grading scale can be either a red, yellow, or green. These colors correspond with how the subject of the test was scored with red being the lowest and green being the highest. Overall, I feel as though I did quite mediocre scoring five yellows and one red. My main weakness was in the subject of commitment the only red I scored on the overall ratings.
The rest of the categories I scored a yellow, which judges me as a moderate risk. I find that I could have done a better job on this test but I think I needed the test to tell me my deficiencies to realize where I need help. I look forward to seeing how I improve along the course of this program. When I look back on these scores I see that my skills are lacking across the board.
CEAP Activities
The focus activities I chose to complete were aligning academic and career goals, intrinsic goal motivation, resilience- social support network, self-directed learning, and work-

school balance. I chose these activities based off how my scores were indicated on my assessment. The scores were broken down into sub-categories, in which they were scored separately then certain recommendations were made to improve yourself utilizing focused activities. I did each one with a red mark and completed those activities based on how the CEAP score recommended. I learned from these activities that I need to focus on myself as much as I need to focus on school to be successful. The work-school balance really made me look introspectively at how I was spending my time between work and school. This also made me analyze the time that I had to spend with my wife at home or between our school schedules.
These focus activities tend to make me look at my overall goals under a microscope. This really made them become laser focused and very scrutinized so I can have watertight attainable goals.
Final Thoughts
To summarize my final thoughts, I feel as though I need to look at what will impact my life during the course of this program. If we look back to the focus activates you will see that the work- school balance is the biggest impact as far as those. This really opened my eyes, I realize that I need to focus more on both my life and school as my top priorities. Work has its place in my life but if it interferes with school then it must be cut back to the point of noninterference. I also realize that happiness while taking these courses is needed, without it none of this matters because happiness trumps all. Throughout the course of activity, I have come to realize that the need to refocus my priorities is imperative. The changes I would like to make are to cut back on work and focus on school. I feel also as though I need to really jumpstart my study skills and really participate in the workshops at the center for academic success. I want nothing more than to succeed in this rigorous program. I hope my changes will be enough to make the difference and really allow me to flourish in this environment.
