o
What made this person interesting to you? What do you think about the music they created? How did the time/place where they lived affect that?
How did their music impact their society and/or continue to influence society today? Do you believe the composer’s music would be different if they followed different Christian tenants – Catholicism or Protestantism?
Are you attracted to the composer or the musical instrument(s) with which they composed? Were any of the instruments that they used foreign to you? Did this create a sense of curiosity to you?
What historical events were happening c. 1600 – 1750? Hypothesize how these events may have provided inspiration to the composer.
You are welcome to include other ideas/rationales as well!
Prompt 2 (Later Influence):
Consider the adage: “What is old will be new again.” We see this with clothing trends and it can be seen in music if you listen closely. Review the following articles. Use their contents, and other resources, to explore how the Baroque period influenced Rock & Roll.

•
o
How are the characteristics of Baroque music represented in Rock music? Can you pinpoint an example of this connection? Be sure to note when your response is based upon research or your own listening impression.
Select one of the albums present in “Bach and Roll”. Find a resource via YouTube, Spotify, or another means to listen to that album in part. In your opinion, has its classical roots driven its success? Would your opinion change if you were unaware of the historical connections?
What is required for music to be considered unique, meaningful or praiseworthy? Consider a piece of music you enjoy. Do you know its origin story? Research it. Was its creation influenced by another artist/piece/era?
If you are a musician, or creative in another way, explain your own creative process. What inspires you? Would you consider drawing connections to classical music in your own artistic process? Do you believe doing so would enhance or diminish your sense of personal creativity? [Show Less]
